Life Tips
You have probably heard these tips somewhere, sometime before. If I
have failed to properly give credit to the author, please let me know. My memory about where things came from
can be a little tricky at times.

We must be the
changes we wish to see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi
-
The greatest crime a person can commit is to be a joyless person. No one or
no external environment can control our inner experience." -
Sadhguru
-
If you tell someone
they have until such and such a date to respond, and they don’t, you lose credibility if you give them
an extension.
-
Say what you mean
and then make sure you do what you said you would.
-
Excuses only
undermine your credibility. See the point above and move on.
-
If you can’t do what
you said you would, let people know right away. Waiting only makes it
worse.
-
The difference
between apologies and excuses is that excuses are a waste of time.
-
Sleeping too little
can shorten your life. Sleeping too long can shorten your life. Listen to what your body is telling you
about how much sleep it needs.
-
If you are more
creative, energetic and productive during one part of the day than another, plan your most important
activities for that time.
-
If you have a “to
do’ list, make sure the most important items are at the top. Then, cross out and forget about the
bottom 80 percent of the items. For most people, only 20% of their time is spent productively, so make
the best possible use of your 20% by focusing only on the items at the top of your
list.
-
If you know you are
going to be waiting in line, make sure you have some good reading material with
you.
-
Even in this
technological age, always, and I mean always, carry a pen and a piece of
paper.
-
Taking several mini
vacations a year are favoured by the rich and there tends to be a relationship between income and the
number of vacations a person takes. You might want to ‘fake it till you make it’ by taking a few mini
vacations. It will recharge your batteries and help you be much more productive and who knows, maybe
even rich one day.
-
If you would not
hire a person like you, maybe it is time to make a change.

Michael Matheson age 8
More than a dozen years
later, I still get chills when I think about the day my eight year old son gave me these three tips. The night
before, I had completed a fire walk – that’s where you walk barefoot over very hot
coals. The next morning I was telling him how it went the night before. He
listened attentively and then left the room. About a minute or two later, he came back in the room and said,
“I have Three Important Tips for you”.
I said “ok, what are they?” I’m not sure what I was thinking they
might be, but nothing could have prepared me for what was to come next.
He said, and I quote:
“Always Believe in
yourself”.
Wow, I thought, that’s pretty cool. “I like that” I said. “So what’s
the next tip?” I asked.
“Trust What is Within,
Not What is Without.”
I think I may have gotten chills at this point. And sure I wondered
if he had left the room and looked in some book and was just parroting something he read but you have to
realize that his reading in those days was very elementary. Nope, these were his tips coming from somewhere
deep within.
“That’s amazing” I told
him. And it was. So I asked him for the third tip.
Never Give Up, Always Keep Going”.
I probably had a tear in the corner of my eye at that point. I
thanked him and wondered how and where he got this stuff. I also wondered who he might be when he grew up, or
got older.
And since then these tips have been on my mind and in my life each
and every day.
Where did he get these tips? Who knows. Is he some guru guy? Well,
he’s much older now and pretty much only talks to me when he needs money. And yet on that day, he was coming
from a place I think we all have within us. It’s a place we seldom get to but it is there within all of
us.
Yes that includes you.

HOW TO FIND YOUR PURPOSE:
H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji on how to find your purpose:
"Ask yourself:
Did I help people today?
Did I give selflessly of myself or not?
Do I feel closer to God?
Did I do anything against my own deep knowledge of what is right?
If you are on the right path, you will experience happiness."
